About Us

More Than a Gear Rental Company

At River's Edge Outfitters, we believe some of life's best memories are made around a campfire, under a canopy of stars, and far away from screens, schedules, and distractions.

We're Karyn and Jason, lifelong outdoor enthusiasts, parents of two, and the founders of River's Edge Outfitters. Our camping journey began long before this business was ever an idea.

We started camping with our children when our youngest was just two months old. Like many families, we learned through trial and error—packing too much, forgetting things we needed, and slowly figuring out what made camping comfortable, enjoyable, and sustainable with young kids.

Over the years, we've camped in tents, yurts, and a hard-sided pop-up trailer before eventually upgrading to our beloved fifth wheel, YOLO. Through every stage of life, camping has remained one of our family's favorite ways to reconnect with each other and create lasting memories.

The Story Behind Camp Insanity

In 2015, Karyn started an annual camping tradition affectionately known as Camp Insanity.

What began as a simple gathering of moms and young children quickly grew into something much more meaningful. Moms came together to share meals, take turns cooking and cleaning, help watch the kids, and create a community where everyone could relax and enjoy the outdoors.

For many years, Camp Insanity brought together local moms and their kids, and created countless stories, friendships, and memories. It became one of our children's favorite traditions growing up and reinforced something we had always believed:

Camping isn't just about where you go. It's about who you share it with.

A Six-Week Adventure

In 2022, our family took a six-week, screen-free sabbatical road trip across the American West.

Traveling in our fifth wheel, we explored some of the country's most iconic landscapes, including Grand Canyon National Park, Saguaro National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, and North Cascades National Park.

The trip reminded us that adventure doesn't require a passport or an extravagant budget. Some of the most meaningful experiences happen when you slow down, disconnect, and spend time together outdoors.

A New Season of Adventure

Today, our kids are teenagers with busy schedules of their own, and our family's adventures continue to evolve.

These days, we're rediscovering the simplicity and flexibility of tent camping again. We love being able to travel light, venture off-grid, and bring our boat along to explore new rivers, lakes, and campgrounds throughout the Pacific Northwest.

After visiting more than 50 campgrounds throughout Oregon alone, we've developed a deep appreciation for both the well-known destinations and the hidden gems that make this region so special.

Why We Started River's Edge Outfitters

In April 2026, Karyn founded River's Edge Outfitters with a simple vision:

To help more people experience the joy of camping and outdoor adventure without the expense, storage requirements, and uncertainty that often come with getting started.

Whether you're visiting Oregon, planning your very first camping trip, introducing your children to the outdoors, or simply don't want to invest thousands of dollars in equipment you'll only use a few times each year, we're here to help.

We carefully curate, clean, and maintain our gear so you can focus on what matters most: making memories.

Our Mission

River's Edge Outfitters exists to make outdoor adventures simple, comfortable, and accessible by providing thoughtfully curated camping gear and experiences that help people spend more time connecting with nature and each other.

We're honored to be a small part of your next adventure.
